I also DO have lyrics now to Molly and Ten-Brooks if you want them.  There's a story there, I'll try to keep it short (hah!).  

The iconic version was made popular by Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys in the 1940's. Before that it had been recorded in the 1920's, but it was written about a horse-race that took place even further back, 1878. The lyric usually has a four line stanza. Every lyric set I can find is that five line stanza.  Not so the version I converted to ABC. No, that uses a NINE line stanza. It doesn't work to marry two original stanzas and add an echoed chorus, since the meter is also a tad different. There isn't any doubt that the song is, indeed, Molly and Tenbrooks, the tune and phrasing is right, just the arrangement of the melody line pulls for a different lyrical treatment.

So, my quandry was... how to tell the same story, the race between two legendary horses? In 1878 it drew over 30,000 people to witness it. History doesn't say that Molly died after crossing the finish line after Ten-Brooks, but all the folk lyrics and traditional songs have that happening.  Instead of just swapping geographical names, like Tennessee and California, I had to reinvent the song, while keeping the story.  Lots harder, and I really didn't think it would be done in time. But I did finish it.

If you want to use it, cool. If nothing else, this one goes in my Solo bag... Too much sweat in it not to do it. LOL

Yes, please, we'll plan to do the lyrics for both Boot Scoot and Tenbrooks... particularly important for Tenbrooks IMHO: the music itself isn't very C/W, so it's the lyrics that really connect it to our theme.

On the issue of additional lyrics -- I just finished the parts assignments and its very complicated and I am not going to make any additional changes to it at this point because of the long time it takes to recheck everything after a change to make sure there I didn't introduce some error.

So ... if we do lyrics for Streets of Laredo or Whose Boots,  it should be Krokhur since Rho is playing clarinet and flute on those two songs and it would look weird for her to sing too. If it's not possible for Kro to do those lyrics I think we should cut them.

As I said, the parts assignments are finished .. the final list of songs and the parts are in THIS FOLDER, so please download them when you get a chance, and if you have time (I sort of doubt anyone does at this point...but if you do...) please check over the parts assignments to see if you can spot any errors (people playing instruments they don't have or can't play, or people playing two instruments for the same song).

Streets of Laredo is actually titled Streets of Esteldin, and for that one Jebbob can sing if I'm on flute.

For Snowbird, it's a sad song that refers to the Grey Havens, so there's room for an elf dig in there if you want.
